The marathon and half-marathon are located at two separate start lines 500m apart on the roadside near the Lower and Upper Lakes of Glendalough Valley.

We do not allow vehicular traffic to the start line area after 7:20 am, so you in order to get there, refer to our ‘Getting to the start lines‘ page for details.

Generally, you should aim to be at HelpDesk near the Glendalough Hotel no later than 15 minutes before your start so you can cover the remaining journey on foot without rushing.

MARATHON START LINE

Marathon start – 2019 (video by Andrew ‘Fitness Goose’ Moore)

The marathon start line is on the roadside next to the Glendalough Lower Lake just after you pass a gate for a trailhead on your left. A ‘Marathon Start’ sign and a yellow line on the ground identifies this point. Start line marshals will be on site to welcome you from 7 am onwards.

Please step aside for any local traffic coming through during this period.

Shortly before the start, a briefing takes place and incoming traffic is closed off between the start line and the Glendalough Hotel as you and your fellow competitors begin running back towards Laragh.

The half-marathon start line is 500m past the marathon start line and can be identified by a sign (shown above) and a white line on the road. Please do not enter the private laneway next to this as a courtesy to the local people living there.

A short briefing will occur 5 minutes before the start after which you will complete a loop of the Upper Lake Car Park and then run outwards to join up with the marathon course as you run back towards the Glendalough Hotel and Laragh.
