Been there and got the tshirt? Or a new marathoner who wants an experience and not just a time? Our race is what you have been looking for. Learn all about it on this site.

about lap of the gap

The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon / Glen to Glen Half-marathon was created in 2016 and is a road race with all the benefits of a trail run: beautiful scenery and the opportunity to run against a challenging and memorable course. All in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park in aid of local club Glendalough AC.

location is everything!

When Glendalough Lap of the Gap was first proposed, we got enthusiastic support from our partners in Wicklow Tourism / Visit Wicklow who share our vision of Wicklow as a premier running destination. While the Wicklow Mountains are mostly known for trail races, there is something nice about watching the scenery without having to watch your footing too closely at the same time! Explore some of the highlights of the national park below.

“Thank you for an amazing experience. Glendalough half marathon was a fantastic challenge. I loved the family feeling, the friendliness ,even asking questions to Facebook. You guys gave your time . Hangovers today are well deserved .I’m off to Spain this evening. What a brilliant way to start the holidays. See you next year xx.” – Mary McKeever

“Scenic route, low crowd, quiet peaceful run through green, lush rolling hills, with views of sheep, cows, golden yellow furze, and the Glenmacness waterfall near the top of the half marathon where you turn around for the second half. Gradual incline and there was a stretch of climb toward waterfall which wasnโ€™t too bad. I managed to PR a little less than two :). If I lived in Ireland, definitely would do it again, and check out Dingleโ€™s marathon! Small crowd, very helpful volunteers, yummy snacks and goodies post race. Maybe some music at the end to pump up runners and celebrate ;). Every one was so friendly. Definitely recommend. Wicklow is a nice area to explore.”

“Amazing route, stunning views, great spread afterwards. The course is gruelling though so if thinking about doing it you will need to be well versed in hill running or prepare to suffer to new levels!”

“Everything about this race was really well done. I thought the pre-race information provided in the booklet was very informative. The race was well organised. I was particularly impressed with the car parking and coach service, which made getting to the start line very stress free. The atmosphere during the race was really nice with runners encouraging each other at the tough hill climbs. Post-race t-shirts and coasters are gorgeous. Toughest part of the course, the last hill before the finish line… a little reminder of the longer hill we had previously endured!.”
